It has now been almost seven years since CD Projekt Red released the first Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, all the way back in January of 2013. Now, with months to go before its release, the excitement among gamers is practically palpable. As if to evidence that fact, the game has now won the Most Wanted Game award at the Golden Joysticks… for the second year in a row!
Cyberpunk 2077 is Still Gamers’ Most Wanted Game
Last year, following CD Projekt Red’s major Cyberpunk 2077 E3 appearance which catapulted the game to the forefront of the gaming news cycle, Cyberpunk 2077 won the Most Wanted Game award at the Golden Joysticks. It was hardly a surprise. After all, the game had stolen the show at E3, and the gameplay demo released months later had drawn enormous attention online. However, between then and E3 2019, CD Projekt Red went relatively quiet. It remained to be seen whether gamers’ excitement for Cyberpunk 2077 would endure, especially as other major titles competed for attention.
However, endure it most certainly has. CD Projekt Red’s E3 announcement that Keanu Reeves would feature in the game once again stole the show at the event. Even though the studio released less gameplay footage this year than in 2018, it seems that gamers are just as excited, if not more so. For the second year in a row, the game has now won the Golden Joysticks’ Most Wanted Game award.
Cyberpunk 2077 is due to actually release on the 16th of April 2020, in around five months’ time. Since the release of a 2019 gameplay trailer, CD Projekt Red has once again fallen quiet. However, that is likely to change in the new year, especially as the game’s release date draws closer. Fans should expect to both hear and see a lot more of Cyberpunk 2077 prior to its launch. After all, CD Projekt Red has still shown relatively little of the hotly-anticipated title.
