When Cyberpunk 2077 releases in around eight months’ time, the sci-fi RPG will be available on PC and both major consoles; the Xbox One and PS4. While CD Projekt Red hasn’t yet confirmed whether it will come to next-gen consoles later in 2020, it’s highly likely. However, the studio has now confirmed that the game will be available on one other platform; Google Stadia. The confirmation came in a recent dev diary released on Stadia’s official YouTube channel.
CD Projekt Red Confirms a Cyberpunk 2077 Stadia Release
In the new dev diary, various senior members of CD Projekt Red’s development team discuss the game’s design goals and how they link to the benefits of Stadia. “This project is of a scale that we’ve never tackled before,” says Senior Level Designer Miles Tost; “the ambition is crazy. Something like Stadia really allows more people to experience our stories; everyone gets to experience the same awesome story, quests, and locations.”
However, for the most part, the video focuses on a brief overview of the game itself, rather than delving into how it’s coming to Stadia. No official release date is given for the game on Stadia, although it will presumably become available when it launches on other platforms in April of 2020. Google Stadia is expected to release sometime in November this year. Of course, it also remains to be seen how viable Cyberpunk 2077 is for Google’s new gaming endeavour. While demonstrations of Stadia appear to demonstrate the viability of the platform, much depends on the user’s internet connection; a factor which is likely to limit the usability of Stadia in many regions.
Stadia’s launch in November should give gamers a better sense of whether the platform will be able to match others in the graphical quality of triple-A games like Cyberpunk 2077. Several major upcoming games are already due for release on Stadia, including Borderlands 3 and Watch Dogs Legion.
