If you’ve grown bored with the base Dark Souls experience, modder Grimrukh has just the thing for you. Grimrukh’s newly released ‘Daughters of Ash’ mod completely revamps Dark Souls by adding in new content and altering existing elements. Thanks to the mod’s additions, Grimrukh estimates there’s roughly twice as much content as what’s in the base game.
Dark Souls Daughters of Ash Mod
To be clear, Grimrukh hasn’t added any brand new game assets. However, what they *have* done is restore much of the content that was cut from the base game. That means players can expect to find new standard and boss enemy types, new weapons and items, new NPC’s, and plenty of new secrets. In fact, Grimrukh says that players likely won’t see all of the mod’s new additions in a single playthrough.
According to the Daughters of Ash Nexus Mods page, the mod took two years and about 1,000 hours to create. Currently, Daughters of Ash is only compatible with the original Prepare to Die version of Dark Souls on PC. However, Grimrukh says they plan on getting a Dark Souls Remastered version up and running sometime in 2019.
There are some noticeable bugs which need sorting out, but Grimrukh seems like they’re on top of it. As of this writing several updates for Daughters of Ash are already available. Grimrukh has also listed a number of bugs they’re aware of and actively working on.
Dark Souls Daughters of Ash Selling Points

- New game progression paths which can lead to unique discoveries and world-altering events.
- New NPC’s complete with their own storylines which intersect with existing NPC’s.
- Modified traits for existing weapons and equipment.
- New weapons and items which function in new and unique ways.
- New standard and boss enemies as well as new behaviors for existing enemies.
- Expanded lore which is built upon (and doesn’t conflict with) the game’s existing lore entries.
In the past, we’ve looked at plenty of other Dark Souls mods as well. Want to play as The Legend of Zelda’s Link? Maybe make the game’s gloomy world a bit brighter? As the kids would say, there’s a mod for that.
