From Software is a studio which has clearly made its name on tough, iconic single-player experiences. There’s the Dark Souls franchise of course, and Bloodborne, and its upcoming title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. However, the studio is well aware of how popular multiplayer games are, especially battle royale games. In fact, From hasn’t ruled out making a battle royale game of its own at some point.
From Software Battle Royale Comments
Speaking in a recent interview with The Telegraph, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki commented on the topic of battle royale. Specifically, he said that From might make its own battle royale and/or “live service” game in the near future:
“There’s always the possibility…these games are definitely fun. And we’re interested in the patterns they are taking. If we did it, it might be a bit different! But we’re definitely interested and there’s definitely that possibility in the future. We’d love to take a crack at them some day.”
Of course, Miyazaki also made sure to reaffirm From’s commitment to single-player games like Dark Souls and Sekiro. While single-player titles have been largely abandoned in favor of persistent online titles, Miyazaki doesn’t think they’re entirely obsolete. He even used games like Devil May Cry 5 and God of War as specific examples:
“Single-player action games don’t feel too rare in the current climate. While Devil May Cry 5 has some online elements, it’s coming out two weeks before our game. And that’s a very single-player focused experience. We’ve also had God of War and Spider-Man.”
Miyazaki closed out the interview by saying there’s still room for all sorts of gaming experiences. Maintaining a healthy balance isn’t just good for the industry, it’s good for the gamers as well. As Miyazaki puts it, diversity in the gaming industry is still vitally important:
“We do need this diversity in the industry. Regardless of what From Software is doing, we need people making battle royale games and live services and we need people making single-player-focused experiences. We feel that this diversity is what will keep everyone going.”
From Software’s latest game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, launches later this week on March 22. Be sure to check out Sekiro’s official launch trailer and PC system requirements.
