Last week, we reported on how a recently launched modding tool called DSFBX now allows Dark Souls modders to directly import assets and models from other games, leading to this mod which features a playable version of GTA: San Andreas protagonist Carl “CJ” Johnson. Now, Dark Souls modder Dropoff, the same modder behind the playable CJ mod, has utilized the DSFBX tool to bring yet another familiar face into the grim world of Lordran: The Legend of Zelda’s Link.
The aptly named Hero of Twilight mod, which was co-developed by Dropoff and another modder named AinTunez, replaces Dark Souls’ Hard Leather armor set with a model likeness that’s based off of Link’s look from the 2006 game Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You can download the mod for free via the Nexus Mods website.
As you can see in the below video that Dropoff and AinTunez mocked up, the mod also adds in new audio effects of Link’s iconic combat shouts, giving it an extra layer of audio immersion. You might also notice the video features a special Zelda-inspired remix of the Gwyn’s Theme song from the Dark Souls soundtrack which was also done up by AinTunez (sadly it doesn’t look like the song is included in the mod itself).
According to the credits section of the Hero of Twilight Nexus Mods page, famous Dark Souls modder ZullieTheWitch also helped in creating the above trailer. ZullieTheWitch is clearly a strong supporter of what Dropoff is doing with the DSFBX tool (a tool which was created by yet another modder, Meowmaritus) since they sent out the below tweet shortly after the release of the CJ mod:
Dark Souls mods have the potential to get a whole lot stranger. It's now possible to import models from other games, or use new custom models. The import tool, created by Meowmaritus is here:https://t.co/Xivu8Hvqw0

Indeed, the sky does seem to be the limit for Dark Souls modding thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the DSFBX tool. Meanwhile, other Dark Souls modders are using their skills for less flashy yet no less interesting pursuits such as digging up content that was ultimately removed from the various Dark Souls games before they launched.
