God of War is laden with side-quests and objectives. One of those that can be done relatively quickly, though not without difficulty, is Dead Freight. This quest can be picked up around halfway through the game. As you make your way across the shores of the Forgotten Caverns, you will come upon a restless spirit. The quest he gives you will send you around the Lake of Nine, to the aptly-named Isle of Death, and beyond.
When you speak to the spirit, he will tell you his tale; he captained a ship to the Lake of Nine, but he and his crew were wrathfully destroyed by the Aesir. Now, his crew have arisen as restless undead, and the captain wants Kratos to lay them to rest. The quest will have you sail from place to place around the Lake of Nine, defeating the remnants of the spirit’s crew; the Isle of Death, Niflheim Tower, and the Iron Cove.
The Isle of Death
The first location you will be sent to is this misty island. Here, you will face only a few weaker enemies; two who hurl ice, and one tougher adversary who wields a hammer. They should be relatively easy to defeat.
Niflheim Tower
After clearing the Isle of Death, head for Niflheim Tower and make your way to the top. There, you will face another three enemies. This time, one carries a shield with the other pair wield swords.
The Iron Cove
Once Niflheim Tower is cleared, make your way to the Iron Cove for the final fight. This one will be much more difficult. Not only will you be facing a further three crewmen, two of whom will be carrying shields, but the trio are accompanied by a pair of Wulvers. These bestial foes pack a serious punch.
Once the final area is cleared and the last of the crew have been laid to rest, return to the Forgotten Caverns. There, you can speak to the spirit of the captain, who will reward you with XP and an Offering to Tyr.
