Destiny 2 developer Bungie has confirmed a release date for the game’s upcoming Black Armory expansion: December 4. One week before that, Bungie will fully unveil the Black Armory expansion through a new ViDoc.
Destiny 2 Black Armory Release Date
The December 4 release date was confirmed in the latest This Week at Bungie blog post. The Black Armory release is part of Destiny 2’s transition into its latest content season, Season of the Forge. Technically, Season of the Forge begins on November 27, and Bungie is making sure it arrives with a bang. On the day Season of the Forge begins, Bungie is releasing a new ViDoc which outlines Black Armory. The ViDoc also includes a calendar roadmap which outlines Bungie’s Destiny 2 plans for all of 2019.
There are three distinct seasons that make up Destiny 2’s 2019 roadmap. The Season of the Forge begins in December and will roll into early 2019. Up next is the Season of the Drifter which undoubtedly includes the Joker’s Wild expansion from the Annual Pass. Finally, a third as-yet-named season closes out 2019 and likely includes the Annual Pass’s third expansion, Penumbra.
Destiny 2’s Annual Pass grants free access to Black Armory, Joker’s Wild, and Penumbra. The three upcoming expansions won’t be as large as Forsaken, but they’ll still add a lot to the game. Black Armory, for example, will bring back the Heavy Machine Gun weapon category from the original Destiny.
Of course, players who hop in and complete the game’s Murder Mystery quest right now can claim an early HMG: the iconic Exotic weapon Thunderlord. Bungie noted in its blog post that the Murder Mystery quest is only available until November 27. After that point, Thunderlord will be rolled into Destiny 2’s existing pool of Exotic item drops.
Along with the Black Armory expansion, December will also see an update that addresses long loading times on consoles.
