As part of Destiny 2’s currently ongoing Revelry event, players can earn a unique Inaugural Revelry armor set. Reward packages purchased during the event also have a chance of containing special ornaments which are unique to the armor. However, once the Revelry is over, those ornaments will be permanently disabled. In the wake of public outcry, Bungie has finally explained why that is.
Destiny 2 Revelry Ornaments Explanation
The Revelry ornaments are specifically tied to each class-specific Inaugural Armor helmet. When applied, each ornament actually grows in size based on how many Inaugural Armor pieces are equipped. Unlike most other Revelry rewards, though, there’s no guaranteed method for finding the ornaments. The only way to get them is via random drops from Revelry reward packages purchased from Eva Levante.
The luck-based nature of obtaining the ornaments was bad enough, but that’s just the lesser of two problems. When the Revelry ends next month, the ornaments will no longer remain active. Players were understandably upset when they discovered this, especially since Bungie offered no prior explanation. Fortunately, community manager Dmg04 recently relayed a response from Bungie.
It turns out that the somewhat-unique nature of the Inaugural Armor is why the ornaments must be temporary. Wearing more Inaugural Armor boosts the effects of Reveler’s Tonic and thus the size of the ornament effects. When the Revelry ends, Reveler’s Tonic will naturally go with it, which means certain bits of code will be disabled. That same code is also attached to the ornaments, and thus keeping them in the game would cause too many backend issues.
According to Dmg04, it would take too long to code, test, and implement a fix for the ornaments issue. The silver lining is that Bungie has received player feedback in regards to making ornaments temporary. Chances are good the studio won’t bring back such a system in future Destiny 2 events.
Finding The Ornaments
Meanwhile, Dmg04 also provided some encouraging advice for players who still want the ornaments. For each reward package a player obtains without an ornament, their chances of an ornament dropping increase. However, this is on a per-character basis so players should try to stick with one character to maximize their chances.
Destiny 2’s Revelry event lasts until Tuesday, May 7.
