Back in the days of OG Destiny, Artifacts were used to aid Guardians with additional perks. They can be very useful inside activities like Raids, Strikes, etc. With Rise of Iron (final expansion in Destiny 1), artifacts brought even more significant change to the gameplay. But with the release of Destiny 2, Bungie (for some reason) decided to remove artifacts completely from the game. And it turned out to be a not-so-good thing they did.
Artifacts Coming Back in Shadowkeep
If you don’t know, Polygon sat down with the Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy to discuss some new (and old) features coming to Shadwkeep.
“The Artifact is one part of this philosophy around making sure that in Destiny going forward, our seasonal content feels like it’s got a sense of momentum,” said Smith.
According to Polygon, there will be new artifacts added with every season after Shadowkeep. And that players will set aside old artifacts and use the brand-new ones released with the season.
Eye of the Gatelord – a Vex Artifact was teased in Out of the Shadows ViDoc. Players will be using this artifact against the Vex enemies inside the Black Garden Raid.
“We kind of have this overall vision for what we’re trying to do with the Destiny RPG game, which is really enable and empower build crafting,” said Smith. “The Artifact is one of the tools that we’re experimenting with, alongside the Armor 2.0 system, which is modding your character and modding — in some cases — your abilities, to become more powerful.”
Destiny is turning out to be a must-play game of 2019. Back when the game was released in 2017, it received very poor reviews. But now, after the Bungie-Activision split, things are looking very bright for the future of Destiny franchise.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Sept. 17, 2019. Google Stadia will also be getting the Destiny 2 release later this year in November. More exciting features like Cross Save are also going to be available on Shadowkeep launch.
