Destiny 2: Bungie Talks About Balancing Well of Radiance in Shadowkeep

Last year with Forsaken, Bungie added nine new Super abilities for each subclass in Destiny 2. That makes 3 for each Class (Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks). Hunters got Spectral Blades, Blade Barrage, and Whirling Guard.  For Warlocks, Well of Radiance, Nova Warp, and Chaos Reach. And for the punchy boys of Destiny – Titans, they’ve got Thundercrash, Burning Maul, and Banner Shield. Now, two new Support supers were added with Forsaken – Well of Radiance (Warlocks) and Banner Shield (Titans).

Well of Radiance Getting Nerfed in Shadowkeep?

GamesRadar interviewed design lead Ben Wommack and Community Manager David Dague (DeeJ) at Gamescom 2019. They discussed several features coming in Shadowkeep. As we know, Weapons of Light is back for Titan’s Bubble; Warlock’s Well of Radiance is in a weird spot. So, Bungie needs to balance the Well in a way where it’s still usable inside Destiny 2’s PvE. Here’s what they have to say about it.

Destiny 2 Well of Radiance

Q: Is Well of Radiance getting nerfed into the ground?

Wommack: Well, considering there were like a whole three or four paragraphs talking about it in the Director’s Cut, I think it’s going to be balanced a little better so it doesn’t create a situation like Reckoning had at launch. But again, this is us looking at what players do and finding the right way to make sure that customization actually matters. If the choice is only to run Well of Radiance strategies and you have to focus your build around that, that’s not good player choice. That’s not choice at all, it’s a mandate – you have to use this. If something is at the level where it feels like ‘They’re gonna have to nerf it,’ then maybe that is what we have to do. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing we’re doing. We want to make sure everything feels appealing and like a choice that actually matters.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, on October 1, 2019, and later in November on Google Stadia.
