Destiny 2’s periodic Iron Banner PvP event has officially begun its first post-Forsaken iteration, and while the event still functions in much the same way as it has before, there are some changes that you should be aware of. Fortunately for you, this article will bring you up to speed on how the newly improved Iron Banner differs from previous incarnations.
Power Matters
Much like in the Forsaken expansion’s new Gambit mode, your power level now matters when participating in the Iron Banner. All Guardians are still encouraged to come give the Iron Banner a try, but if you step into the arena at 500 power level and you happen to cross paths with a 530 power opponent, let’s just say you’ll have your work cut out for you if you hope to come out on top. This change actually brings Destiny 2’s Iron Banner more in line with that of the original Destiny, so if you’re a dedicated PvP fan your work will certainly pay off.
New Bounties
Iron Banner organizer Lord Saladin is now offering seven weekly bounties for players to work through during the event’s weeklong duration. Completing each bounty will award either an Iron Banner weapon or armor piece, and two of the bounty rewards will be a guaranteed Powerful Gear drop.
Players will be able to directly purchase Iron Banner armor and weapons from Lord Saladin once the associated bounty has been completed, and Bungie promises that the perk rolls attached to the weapons will be switched up for each new Iron Banner event.
Post-Match Rewards
Bounties won’t be the only way that Iron Banner participants can get their hands on the event’s unique gear. Again, much like in the original Destiny, players will have a chance of receiving a random item drop at the end of each Iron Banner match. Post-match item drops will also be available in the standard Crucible experience, but completing Iron Banner matches will be the only way you can get Iron Banner items.
A New Map
Along with this week’s Iron Banner event, Bungie has also added a new map called Convergence into the Destiny 2 Crucible experience. Convergence is a permanent part of the game and can be played both in Iron Banner and more traditional Crucible playlists. If you own the Forsaken expansion, you can also play on Convergence in private matches.
