Destiny 2 Forsaken Is Getting Another Gambit Free Trial Weekend

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has announced that the Gambit game mode, one of the many features to be added in the recently launched Forsaken expansion, will be getting another free trial weekend. If you haven’t experienced Gambit for yourself and you want to know what all the fuss is about, you’ll get your chance starting tomorrow.

Destiny 2 is getting another free Gambit weekend.

The second free trial weekend for Gambit will begin tomorrow, Sep. 21, at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) and last until Sunday, Sep. 23 at the same time. Much like the previous Gambit trial (which was actually held ahead of Forsaken’s full launch), this upcoming trial will be open to all Destiny 2 players, even those who have yet to purchase the Forsaken expansion.

All four of Gambit’s currently available maps will be featured in the free trial weekend. However, it’s not yet clear whether free trial players will earn any rewards from the mode, or if their Infamy progress (Infamy being Gambit’s dedicated progression system) will carry over should they purchase the Forsaken expansion afterwards.

Gambit is a competitive mode featuring two teams of four players, but rather than fighting each other directly the teams are instead racing to see who can more quickly defeat waves of tough AI enemies, gather the motes they drop, and deposit them in a central bank. Once a team has banked a total of 75 motes, a powerful Primeval boss enemy is summoned and the first team to slay their Primeval wins the round. At certain points of a match, one player from a team can even invade the other team to disrupt their efforts.

While Gambit has received a generally positive reception, the mode is not without its growing pains. In some cases, these growing pains have been directly addressed by Bungie proving at least that the studio is committed to balancing Gambit’s unique competitive premise with a fair and accessible learning curve.
