Currently, Destiny 2’s Lost Sectors don’t have much of a purpose. Sure, they can serve as fun little distractions while you’re leveling up, and they actually tie into the game’s recently revamped Faction Rallies, but for the average Destiny 2 endgame player, there’s very little reason to even bother with them. However, Bungie hopes to change that with the game’s upcoming Forsaken expansion by introducing a new endgame activity in which players have to hunt down some of the most dangerous criminals in the galaxy.
In the same article where it discussed the changes Bungie will be making to Destiny 2’s Flashpoints, Game Informer also talked about a new series of enemies that players will get to hunt called Outlaws. Outlaws are dangerous foes who have escaped from the Prison of Elders and are holed up in various locations around the world of Destiny 2. According to Bungie, Outlaws can be found on any explorable planet, showing up during public events, in the middle of a Strike, during a Gambit match, or even as a new end boss in a Lost Sector.
Players will be able to track which outlaws they have successfully taken down, and they’ll also be able to pick up bounties to track specific outlaws to their hiding spots. There will be four tiers of difficulty for the outlaw bounties, each meant for Guardians of a different Power Level. The most difficult tier involves venturing into a new ‘Outlaw Lost Sector,’ a redesigned version of a standard Lost Sector complete with new hazards, enemy compositions, and, of course, a powerful outlaw boss to battle at the end. These Outlaw Lost Sectors can only be tackled by players who have reached the highest Power Level echelons, providing yet another persistent endgame activity for PvE fans.
Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will launch for all platforms (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC) on September 4.
