Yesterday, we reported on how Bungie was aware of the issue which caused Destiny 2’s weekly challenge reset to occur much earlier than anticipated, locking certain players out of the weekly rewards they’d otherwise be entitled to. Originally, it looked as if Bungie wouldn’t be able compensate those who had been affected by the error, but now the studio has changed its tune.
Bungie confirmed via Twitter that with the launch of Destiny 2’s latest hotfix, which is being deployed today, the proper weekly challenge reset schedule will be restored and players who were affected by the faulty reset will be compensated:

The language of the original Tweet is a little confusing as it doesn’t make clear whether the weekly challenges will be restored *and* affected players will get Powerful Gear rewards, or whether those players will have to complete the weekly challenges a second time to get those rewards. Either way, it’s at least comforting to know that the issue has been sorted out, ideally for good.

This was perhaps the worst possible time for such an issue to occur in the first place since tomorrow just so happens to be the launch date for Destiny 2’s latest raid, The Last Wish. More dedicated players who were hoping to be raid ready the moment The Last Wish launches were understandably upset over potentially missing an entire weekly challenge cycle (and its associated gear upgrade rewards) all because of an error on Bungie’s part.
The weekly reset fix is no doubt welcome news for Destiny 2 fans, but it is far from the only issue that players have encountered now that the game’s recently launched Forsaken expansion is up and running. Hopefully, Bungie will be as quick to address such issues as it was with the weekly reset problem.
