Destiny 2’s Black Armory expansion introduces a series of new Lost Forge co-op activities which augment the existing endgame. The forges are slowly unlocked over time, but don’t be so quick to move beyond the initial Volundr Forge. It turns out there’s more to the first forge than meets the eye, a secret worth investigating further.
Destiny 2 Hidden Mystery Box Location
Since finding the Mystery Box requires access to the Volundr Forge, you’ll have to do a little prep work first. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to complete the opening Black Armory quest to access the forge. Then, you should make sure you’re of a high enough power level to survive the forge’s challenges. Fortunately, Bungie just made that part a little bit easier.
Once you’ve completed the opening mission and reached a sufficient power level, go ahead and begin the Volundr Forge unlock mission. Play through the mission until you reach the location of the forge itself, Smidur’s Cavern. Head over to the collapsed bridge near the chasm and jump to the far side of it. Clear out the enemies and then turn so you’re facing the forge itself.
Next, turn around so you’re facing the chasm you jumped across and look towards your right. Along the cliff-face you should spot a small cave opening and rough “path” of platforms used to reach it. Inside the cave is a treasure chest and opening the chest awards the Mysterious Box.
Opening the box requires the unlocking of four separate locks. Each lock is tied to the four forges and thus you can unlock the first lock in the Volundr Forge. To unlock the Volundr Forge lock, search Smidur’s Cavern for two drones and destroy them. Then, when next you complete the Volundr Forge activity, you’ll receive a key to unlock the first lock.
As of this writing, not all the Black Armory forges are available so you’ll have to play the waiting game. We don’t yet know what the Mystery Box contains but the most likely theory is that it’s a new Exotic weapon.
