There’s a limited-time quest currently available in Destiny 2 which involves, of all things, a murder mystery. At first blush this quest may not seem like much, but it has a very tantalizing reward at the end. Those who finish the quest can earn the Thunderlord Heavy Machine Gun, a returning Exotic from the original Destiny. This guide outlines every step for completing the quest so you can add the Thunderlord to your inventory.
Destiny 2 Murder Mystery Walkthrough
The murder mystery quest is only available until November 27, after which the Thunderlord will join the standard Exotics pool. The first step for the quest should already be in your quest log when you enter the game. You’ll be sent to visit Amanda Holliday in the Tower and she’ll tell you about the murder victim: Master Ives. To figure out who killed Ives, you’ll have to complete a series of tasks in the EDZ.
Step 1
Your first task is to gather pages from Ives’ journal. The pages are dropped by powerful Fallen in the EDZ, particularly Fallen with yellow health bars. Doing a single instance of the Heroic Glimmer Extraction event should be enough to get all the pages.
Step 2
The next step involves completing a series of EDZ Lost Sectors. The first three are easy since they’re all in the Trostland region: the Atrium, Widow’s Walk, and Terminus East. With those three down you’ll be sent to a fourth Lost Sector: Whispered Falls in the Outskirts region.
Step 3
After completing Whispered Falls you’ll be sent back to Amanda. She’ll tell you she’s found the killer and that you must use a teleporter in Whispered Falls to reach him. Return to the Lost Sector and use the teleporter to reach a familiar locale: the Cosmodrome from the original Destiny.
Head through the Cosmodrome and you’ll soon confront the killer: a tough Fallen Captain named Kikliss. Once Kikliss is dead you’ll be sent back to Amanda one last time and she’ll hand over a special Engram. Take the Engram to Master Rahool and he’ll decrypt it into the Thunderlord.
More Heavy Machine Guns will arrive in Destiny 2 when the Black Armory expansion launches on December 4. December will also include an update which addresses long loading times on consoles.
