If you’re a PlayStation 4 owner who’s been on the fence about purchasing Bungie’s epic sci-fi sequel Destiny 2, pay attention because soon you’ll be able to try the game out entirely risk free.

Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague recently posted this announcement on the PlayStation Blog, confirming that Destiny 2 is getting a free weekend event on the PlayStation 4. Starting tomorrow, June 29, and lasting until next Monday, July 2, all PlayStation 4 owners will be able to download and play Destiny 2 entirely for free.
The scope of the free weekend event will also be surprisingly wide, allowing players to create a character and venture through the entire base game story campaign from the opening “Homecoming” mission to the final fight against the campaign’s main antagonist, Dominus Ghaul. Free weekend players will also be able to participate in the PvP-centric Crucible and, if they manage to finish the story campaign, endgame activities such as the currently ongoing Faction Rally. Those who venture into the free weekend will also naturally benefit from all of the free post-launch updates Bungie has released for Destiny 2 such as the ‘Go Fast’ update that drastically sped up several gameplay systems.
Even better, DeeJ’s post also says that any progress a player makes during the free weekend will carry over if they decide to purchase the game, allowing them to pick up right where they left off should they decide to continue their spacefaring adventures beyond the free weekend’s duration. Now’s as good a time as ever to hop aboard the Destiny 2 train, especially with the upcoming launch of its Forsaken expansion, and expansion that, among other things, will bring back a beloved feature from the original Destiny.
Sadly, the free weekend will only be available on PlayStation 4, but here’s hoping that Bungie is considering future free weekend events for the Xbox One and PC as well.
