Last Friday, the new Last Wish raid which is part of Destiny 2’s recently launched Forsaken expansion finally opened its doors, prompting a mad dash from hundreds of fireteams hoping to be the first team in the world to finish it. After roughly 19 hours of sheer nonstop playing, Clan Redeem took the world’s first honors, and in the process it unlocked new in-game content that the entire Destiny 2 playerbase can take advantage of.
*The following contains spoilers for Destiny 2’s Last Wish raid*
It turns out that when Clan Redeem slew The Last Wish’s final boss, the Taken Ahamkara known as Riven of a Thousand Voices, they set off a chain of irreversible events which affected both Destiny 2’s lore and gameplay. The world of Destiny 2 is forever changed, and all players can see that change firsthand if they know where to look.
For starters, when next a player enters the Dreaming City region, they’ll be treated to this ominous new cutscene:
Now, Taken corruption visual effects can be seen all throughout the Dreaming city, and those who participate in the region’s Blind Well public activity can unlock a special heroic mode for the event complete with enemies who spawn at a staggering 580 power. Even if you don’t venture into the Dreaming City, you can still experience the repercussions of Clan Redeem’s actions via a new co-op strike called The Corrupted, and early reports suggest that the new strike is very much worth playing for those who appreciate unique gameplay mechanics and/or new lore developments. Lastly, a brand new Gambit map, titled Cathedral of Stars, has now been added to the public rotation.
Dedicated Destiny 2 fans likely know already that this isn’t technically the first time that Bungie unlocked new game-wide content when a raid was completed. When players finally bested the challenges of Destiny 2’s initial Leviathan raid last year, they inadvertently unlocked a new Crucible PvP map called Emperor’s Respite for the entire playerbase.
Stay tuned as there will undoubtedly be more secrets to unearth now that Destiny 2’s Last Wish raid has been cleared.
