While a majority of Destiny 2’s playerbase is currently busy voicing its concerns over the nature of the newly revamped Faction Rallies, there is also a vocal minority that has begun to focus on a new issue. Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion will be making some major changes to how the game’s weapon system functions, and players are worried not only that their current arsenal might be left behind, but that Bungie isn’t giving a clear answer on whether or not their concerns are valid.
It all started a few days ago when Bungie community manager David “DeeJ” Dague was asked a question via Twitter. The question was in regards to the various changes and additions the Forsaken expansion will be bringing, things like an overhaul for the mod system and random perk rolls for weapons, and whether those changes would mean that all current weapons would be “left behind” in favor of weapons that utilized the new systems. DeeJ responded to the question, but his answer didn’t inspire a lot of confidence:

DeeJ’s response was likely meant to be taken as “we want to keep the conversation going,” but several fans took it as a deliberate non-answer meant to hide more sinister motivations. Members of the official Destiny subreddit were quick to voice their concerns, saying that, by not providing a clear answer, Bungie was doing much more harm than good. After all, if Bungie isn’t planning on leaving old weapons behind once Forsaken launches, then why not just say so? And if Bungie *is* planning on ditching all of the pre-Forsaken weapons, then why bother grinding for them in the first place?
As of this writing, Bungie hasn’t provided any sort of update on the issue (the studio is likely busy prepping for the E3 Forsaken story reveal as DeeJ mentioned in his tweet). Hopefully fans won’t be left wondering for too much longer whether or not they’ll be able to use their favorite pre-Forsaken weapons once the expansion launches later this year.
