One of the more interesting experiments Bungie tried with the original Destiny was the implementation of Chroma. Chroma was a customization system through which players could modify the colored lighting effects of certain weapons and armor. Oddly enough, Chroma wasn’t ported over to Destiny 2, an oversight which some fans hope Bungie will address.
Destiny 2 Redditors Want Chroma Back
Redditor CzRSpecV put up this post on the official Destiny subreddit asking about Chroma. Specifically, CzRSpecV queried the community about whether they’d want to see Chroma make a return in Destiny 2. As the post explains, Chroma would fit in rather nicely as a new addition to Destiny 2’s Eververse offerings.
In Destiny, Chroma was only available for a limited selection of weapons and armor sets. However, given Destiny 2’s enhanced technical capabilities, a newly revamped Chroma system would have a lot of potential. Some commenters in CzRSpecV’s pointed out that the addition of Ornaments has made the need for Chroma somewhat redundant. Of course, whereas Ornaments drastically alter an item’s appearance, Chroma instead enhances the item’s base look.
Bringing Chroma back as a Destiny 2 Eververse item would certainly be a win-win for players and for Bungie. Bungie (and Activision) would get more microtransaction revenue, and players would get another way to customize their Guardians. In the original Destiny, Chroma came in seven different colors: green, red, blue, yellow, white, magenta, and orange. For Destiny 2, though, Bungie could easily move beyond static colors and shift more towards animated color schemes.
While we wait for Bungie to wise up and bring back Chroma, Destiny’s Redditors have plenty of other suggestions. We’ve covered several of the more interesting suggestions such as making Prime Engrams desirable to max-level players. There’s also this suggestion requesting a Vex-themed game expansion on par with Forsaken. Here’s hoping Bungie is keeping tabs on the Destiny Reddit page because there’s a lot of good ideas coming out of it.
