Back when Destiny 2’s Season of the Drifter launched, Bungie implemented a helpful series of ‘Power Surge’ catch-up bounties. By completing these bounties, players earned gear of a suitable power level for the new Season of the Drifter content. For the upcoming Season of Opulence, Power Surge bounties are making a return. However, Bungie is tweaking said bounties to make them more user-friendly.
Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Power Surge Bounties
Bungie addressed the returning Power Surge bounties in its latest weekly blog post. According to the post, the bounties are being reworked so that they feel like less of a chore. In fact, it’s inaccurate to use the term “bounties” since Season of Opulence will have just one Power Surge quest. When a player completes the quest, they’ll be awarded a full set of 690 power gear.
Destiny 2 players with multiple characters will also be happy to hear the quest only needs to be completed once. As long as at least one character has finished the Power Surge quest, all characters get a 690 gear set. This should help reduce the grind for players who have been struggling to keep multiple characters’ power up to date.
Interestingly enough, Destiny 2 raiders will want to complete the new Power Surge quest as well. Bungie also mentioned completing the quest is a requirement for accessing the new Season of Opulence raid, Crown of Sorrow. This is assumedly because the quest contains new lore that ties into Crown of Sorrow, but we can’t confirm that.
Give and Take
To counterbalance the good news regarding the new Power Surge quest, Bungie also mentioned changes to Gambit bounties. The studio wants Gambit and The Drifter to have a less prominent role in Season of Opulence. Therefore, power boosts received from Gambit bounties will noticeably decrease once a player reaches 700 power. Said decreases will become even more noticeable when a player reaches 720 power.
Destiny 2’s Season of Opulence and corresponding Penumbra expansion launch on June 4.
