The recent August cover story that Game Informer did on Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion has led to a bunch of new information about what the expansion will be adding to the game. One element of particular interest is the Dreaming City, a new dynamic region which players will only gain access to after finishing the Forsaken expansion’s main story.
According to the information contained in the Reddit post, players will spend most of their initial time in Forsaken exploring the previously revealed Tangled Shore region. The Tangled Shore is where players will hunt down the Scorn Barons and ultimately gain vengeance for a fallen friend by defeating the mad Awoken prince Uldren, but it’s also only one half of the entire landscape that Forsaken players will get to explore. Once a player finishes Forsaken’s story campaign, they’ll be given a quest that, when completed, opens up the path to the Dreaming City, the fabled home of the Awoken race.
Once they’re in the Dreaming City, players will link up with a familiar face: Petra Venj, who first appeared in the original Destiny but had been absent from Destiny 2 until now. Venj will act as the Dreaming City’s guiding character and vendor, and she’ll also aid players in dealing with a Taken threat that is slowly infecting the region. Players will participate in new quests and activities as they fight the Taken, and they’ll even venture into an alternate reality called the Ascendant Realm. All of these different activities and quests will culminate in a brand new Raid experience set in the Dreaming City’s Keep of Voices, and completing the new Raid will reveal a “greater threat” that was apparently the cause of Uldren’s madness.
While it’s still too early to say for sure, it sounds like the Dreaming City will provide a dynamic ongoing experience for endgame players, one that will cater to virtually any kind of player who is interested in long-term PvE content. We’ll know for sure when the Forsaken expansion arrives on September 4.
