Destiny 2 Redditor Shows How Strikes Can Be Improved

Destiny 2’s Strikes are in a weird place. There are technically incentives to run them, but those incentives are super thin and evaporate quickly. Thus, one member of the official Destiny Reddit community decided to outline how they believe Strikes can be improved.

Destiny 2 Strike Improvements

Redditor ShurikenNinja95’s suggestion targets the big weak point of the current Strike system: no long-term incentives. Most players just log in, do their daily/weekly Strike milestones, and never touch Strikes again until the next weekly reset. There are also many who don’t even bother with the weekly milestone’s annoying “same subclass as a teammate” requirement. The lack of Strike-specific loot for non-Nightfall Strikes is yet another ongoing issue that turns players off.

Fortunately, ShurikenNinja95 does an admirable job of addressing all the above issues with their suggestion post. The full post is definitely worth reading, but the basic gist is as follows:

  • Implement a Strike-specific ranking system similar to the Crucible’s Valor ranks or Gambit’s Infamy ranks. This system would apply to both standard and Nightfall Strikes and would incentivize concurrent Strike attempts.
  • Bring back Strike-specific loot for non-Nightfall Strikes. Again, this would encourage players to keep running Strikes beyond the requirements of their daily/weekly milestones.
  • Add in daily Strike challenges that award Powerful Gear drops for meeting certain criteria. Specific challenges might include killing 100 enemies with the daily modified damage type (Brawler, Grenadier, etc.).
  • Change the weekly milestone so that it merely requires completing three Strikes as a given subclass element. This would remove the guesswork element of the current milestone and encourage players to give different subclasses a try.

Commenters in ShurikenNinja95’s thread talked about how Bungie seems to be moving away from Strikes in general. After all, creating more uniform activities like the Black Armory’s Forges takes a lot less effort than crafting new Strikes. Here’s hoping that Strikes are still part of Bungie’s long-term plan for Destiny 2. In the meantime, other Reddit-based suggestions tackle issues like Prime Engrams and the lack of a proper Vex-themed expansion.
