Ikora Rey is one of the most iconic and beloved figures in the Destiny series’ lore. However, in Destiny 2 her function as an NPC vendor has been largely obsolete, especially after Forsaken’s launch. Sure, she still provides a weekly reward for completing bounties, but that’s about it.
Bungie has long struggled to keep Ikora’s in-game presence relevant, even working her into seasonal events like the Dawning. However, Destiny 2’s new Gambit Prime armor system may have provided the perfect solution for Ikora’s ongoing sophomore slump.
Making Destiny 2’s Ikora Relevant Again
The new Ikora vendor idea comes courtesy of Redditor LostEagru. LostEagru’s idea involves bringing back the old Legendary armor sets Ikora used to offer through her daily meditiations. However, the twist would be that the armor granted stacking Strike perks similar to Gambit Prime armor.
Basically, Ikora would offer Strike-related daily and weekly tasks (and maybe even her old mediations) for players to complete. Completing those tasks would award tokens which could then be redeemed for class-specific legacy armor sets. Not only would these armor sets look cool, they’d also grant stacking passive perks for standard and Nightfall Strikes.
Such a change would address several problems at once. It’d make Ikora relevant again and it’d provide players with a new PvE rewards track to pursue. It would also give more relevance and replay value to the neglected Strike system. Ikora’s rewards could even be expanded to include unique new weapons and other rewards.
LostEagru acknowledges in their post that the Ikora rework is a pretty big ask. However, given how good Bungie has been as of late with incorporating fan feedback, it’s worth putting out there. As someone who prefers PvE content over PvP, I’m all for LostEagru’s suggestion. I certainly like the idea of Gambit Prime armor, but not so much the PvP-focused execution.
