As it currently stands, Destiny 2’s equipment mod system isn’t ideal, which is likely why Bungie plans to revamp the system as part of what it’s calling “Mods 2.0.” Of course, as of this writing we don’t know exactly what the Mods 2.0 system will entail, but that hasn’t stopped the game’s Reddit community from tossing out ideas of their own.
Some fans are hoping that Bungie plans to reveal a preview of what the Mods 2.0 system will be relatively soon. Though others pointed out that there’s still plenty of time between now and the launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion (the Mods 2.0 system will be included with Forsaken as part of a free update) and thus plenty of time for Bungie to ensure it has all aspects of the new mod system nailed down. Others are hoping that the new system does away with the +5 Power Level modifier granted through Legendary tier mods, if only for the sake of proper mathematical symmetry.
Having to apply Legendary mods in order to reach the absolute maximum Power Level cap has always felt like an arbitrary and pointless distinction, which is why some fans are hoping Bungie gets rid of it altogether. An ideal alternative, at least according to Destiny 2 Redditors, would be to make mods feel less constrictive by removing the armor, element, and class restrictions that currently make the system so unwieldy and unintuitive. Mods should help players refine their ideal playstyles, not force them to incessantly grind just to min/max their character’s total Power Level.
