Destiny 2: The ‘Walk Slowly’ Matchmaking Bug Workaround is Now Bungie-Sanctioned

Implementing open-world activities designed for multiple players is something Bungie has been doing ever since the original Destiny. The Court of Oryx, Archon’s Forge, Escalation Protocols, and the Blind Well are all meant for multiple players to tackle. However, Bungie’s own player-instancing mechanics have often worked against it in this regard. After all, it’s hard to enjoy such activities when the game constantly puts you in an empty world instance.

Destiny 2 Temporary Blind Well Matchmaking Solution

Destiny 2's Blind Well has an unorthodox matchmaking workaround.

For some of the above activities, players actually found a rather unorthodox solution. By slowly walking across an area transition point, a player can improve their chances of entering a more populated instance. Now, the patented ‘walk slowly’ strategy has been blessed by Bungie itself as a temporary fix for Blind Well matchmaking.

Bungie recently confirmed via Twitter that a bug is affecting Blind Well matchmaking in Destiny 2. Players have been complaining about the Blind Well activity’s erratic matchmaking ever since the launch of the Forsaken expansion. While Bungie works on a permanent fix, it provided a temporary workaround that should sound familiar to some players:

Here’s the full statement from Bungie in case the above tweet embed doesn’t load for you:

“We have identified an issue with matchmaking within the Blind Well. As a workaround while we work on a fix, players are advised to enter the Blind Well slowly via the right side hallway while hugging the wall.”

Using the above strategy increases a player’s odds of entering a more populated world instance for the Blind Well. It’s not a foolproof strategy but it’s certainly better than nothing, especially for solo-preferred players. As of this writing, Bungie hasn’t provided an ETA for the permanent matchmaking fix. The fact that Bungie is at least aware of the issue and working on it should provide some comfort though.

Speaking of fixes, Bungie also recently tweaked the Black Armory expansion’s Lost Forge activity. The change came mere days after Black Armory’s launch in response to overwhelming negative feedback. Bungie also recently deployed a more generalized hotfix patch which brings Destiny 2 up to version 2.1.1.1.
