After a previous video preview that teased the expansion’s name, Bungie has now made it official: Destiny 2’s next expansion is called Forsaken, and it will bring with it a whole host of exciting new features when it launches this coming September.
A large portion of the Destiny 2 Forsaken reveal event was devoted to an in-depth vidoc in which members of the Destiny 2 development team discussed the various new features that will be included in the expansion, as well as how they will alter the existing Destiny 2 experience.
As was originally teased last month, Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will take players back to The Reef, a location from the original Destiny which has since fallen into lawlessness. A powerful enemy faction known as the Scorn has escaped the Prison of Elders, and players must work with the Exo Hunter Cayde-6 to bring them to justice.
In terms of gameplay, the Forsaken expansion will introduce new sub-classes for players to unlock, powerful new super abilities for players to wield, a new bow and arrow weapon type, two vast new outdoor regions to explore, a PvE-PvP hybrid mode called Gambit, and much, much more.
You can watch the full nine-minute vidoc below if you’d prefer to soak in the exciting new details through a visual medium:
The Forsaken expansion can be pre-ordered now ahead of its September 4 launch date for $39.99. Along with the expansion, Bungie also plans to implement a number of free updates that will bring even more features and tweaks to the existing Destiny 2 experience. Those free features will include the return of the Bounties system, 6v6 Quickplay for the Crucible, weapon slot changes, randomized weapon perk rolls, and changes to the mod system among other things. The first free update will launch on July 17, with the second launching alongside the Forsaken expansion on September 4.
