Thanks to their recent overhaul, Destiny 2’s Faction Rallies feel more meaningful and worthwhile, though much of that can likely be attributed to the unique exotic weapon catalysts each faction offers. However, as engaging as the rallies are now, one Destiny 2 Redditor recently posted an idea of how they could potentially be expanded upon in future content seasons.
Over on the official Destiny subreddit, Redditor SouthernGent671 put up this post in which they discussed some of the ways they’d like to see Faction Rallies grow in the future. Specifically, SouthernGent671 wants to see new story missions, quests, and even Strikes that are specifically tied to each faction, allowing those who are pledged to those factions to gain a greater insight into their chosen faction’s motivations and goals while also enjoying new playable content.
The faction-specific Strikes would also help to foster a greater sense of camaraderie and faction loyalty since players would be matchmade with other members of their faction for each Strike. Meanwhile, the activities as a whole would provide clearer context as to what the different faction represented (something which is noticeably missing in Destiny 2 as it currently is), and of course they’d allow players to earn unique rewards much as how Faction Rallies do now.
Commenters in SouthernGent671’s post agreed that faction-themed Strikes and story missions would be a wonderful addition, but they also clarified that locking content such as quests and Strikes behind specific faction pledges wouldn’t be ideal, at least while Faction Rallies are presented as temporary events and players can only pledge to one faction for their entire account. For SouthernGent671’s suggestion to really work, Destiny 2 would likely have to go back to a similar faction system as the original Destiny in which factions were a persistent presence and players could switch factions freely if they so wished.
We’ll likely see what, if any, sorts of changes Bungie has planned for Destiny 2’s faction system in the near future, but in the meantime it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Bungie to look towards SouthernGent671’s Reddit post for inspiration.
