At long last, the day has arrived. Destiny 2’s new Forsaken expansion is being rolled out across all available platforms (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC), bringing with it a series of sweeping changes to existing gameplay systems along with a whole host of new features.
In case you’re not entirely up to date, we’ve gone ahead and outlined the major new features of the Forsaken expansion below. Since purchasing the Forsaken expansion also allows you to instantly level-boost a single character, you’ll be able to partake in all of the below content even if Forsaken is your first proper Destiny 2 experience.
- A brand new story campaign will take players back to The Reef, home of the Awoken and a familiar destination for those who played the original Destiny. Once in The Reef, players will get to explore two new outdoor zones, the Tangled Shore and Dreaming City, as they pursue their ultimate goal: bringing the traitorous Awoken prince Uldren Sov and his Scorn Barons to justice.
- Major reworks for existing Guardian classes and the addition of nine new super moves, one each for the three sub-classes available to each Guardian class.
- A new ongoing endgame experience wherein players will slowly unlock new parts of the Dreaming City at the behest of Petra Venj, another familiar face from the original Destiny. The Dreaming City will have its own unique missions, public activities, and earnable rewards, and it will also be the place where players find Forsaken’s new raid, The Last Wish.
- A new PvE/PvP hybrid mode called Gambit in which two teams compete to see who can be the first to defeat waves of AI foes, gather motes dropped by defeated enemies, and ultimately slay a powerful final boss called a Primeval. The twist is that, at certain parts during a match, one player from a given team will be able to directly invade and attack the other team.
- A new competitive Crucible mode called Breakthrough which will arrive shortly after Forsaken’s launch and will involve objective-based attack/defense gameplay.
- Sweeping changes to the in-game Director menu, a revamped strike playlist that does away with Heroic strikes, the return of Heroic story missions, and more miscellaneous changes.
Sadly, as has been the case with past Destiny releases, some of the Forsaken expansion’s new content offerings will initially be a timed exclusive for PS4 players, but even if you’re playing on PC or Xbox One, there’s still a lot within the Forsaken expansion that will keep you busy.
