Bungie announced the official start date for Destiny 2’s upcoming Season of Opulence in its latest weekly blog post. The next major season kicks off on June 4, and it will bring a brand new raid experience with it. However, unlike previous raid releases, this new raid will be available the moment Season of Opulence goes live.
Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Raid
According to Bungie’s post, the new raid is called Crown of Sorrow. Access to the Crown of Sorrow raid will unlock at exactly 4 p.m. PST (7 pm. EST) on June 4. However, the recommended power level for the raid’s first encounter is 715 (Destiny 2’s current power cap is 700). This means raiders will need to do a little prep work if they want to be fully prepared for the raid’s new challenges.
Temporary Raid Changes
Bungie is also implementing a few preventative measures to ensure an even playing field for potential world-first raid clears. When the Season of Opulence arrives, the following raid-specific restrictions will be in effect (text courtesy of Bungie):
- Last Wish and Scourge of the Past will be unavailable until Crown of Sorrow has been beaten
- This prevents players with a stash of Ethereal Keys from having a leg up in the race
- Prime Attunements will be reset to two charges per character on day one
- While characters build Prime Attunement charges over time, these are being set to two per character upon logging in after the new season begins.
- All level 50 characters can earn Prime Engrams after signing in and playing during the Season of Opulence
- Players may continue to build Prime Attunements over time after the reset occurs
Bungie also noted that all Powerful Gear bounties obtained before the Season of Opulence begins are capped at 700 power. Again, this is meant to curtail players from gaining an unfair advantage at the start of the season.
Chances are good that the Crown of Sorrow raid will require the Season of Opulence’s accompanying paid DLC Penumbra. Penumbra is the third and final paid DLC mini-expansion included in Destiny 2’s Annual Pass. Rumors suggest the Crown of Sorrow raid is set on the Leviathan (the location of Destiny 2’s initial raids). However, as of this writing Bungie has neither confirmed nor denied those rumors.
While you wait for the Season of Opulence to arrive, you can try earning the new Outbreak Perfected Exotic weapon. Also, be sure to check out the full patch notes for Destiny 2’s recently deployed 2.2.2 game update.
