Later today, Bungie will be hosting a full unveiling of Destiny 2’s second year of content courtesy of a livestream event, and yesterday evening the studio offered a little tease on what will undoubtedly be one of the bigger reveals included in the livestream. According to the teaser that Bungie sent out, Destiny 2’s upcoming September expansion will be called Forsaken.
The tease came courtesy of the below tweet from the official Bungie Twitter account. Along with a reminder to tune in for today’s livestream, the tweet included an embedded video preview showing the loveable Exo Hunter Cayde-6 (voiced with aplomb by renowned actor Nathan Fillion) along with a second Guardian (assumedly the player’s Guardian). What exactly Cayde-6 is saying in the preview isn’t disclosed, but the footage of the two Guardians quickly cuts away to reveal a ‘Destiny 2: Forsaken’ title card, confirming the name of the expansion.
Tomorrow, the second year of Destiny 2 will be revealed.

We already know from a previous Bungie tease that the September expansion will re-introduce The Reef, the Awoken-controlled social space that was originally included in Destiny’s House of Wolves expansion, and now Bungie has offered even more for fans to speculate on. One outlying theory suggests that the expansion will involve allying with a rogue band of friendly Fallen and might even see the return of Variks, a friendly Fallen NPC who was also introduced in House of Wolves. The theory is tied to an endgame mission in Destiny 2 where players encounter, and can potentially make a temporary ally of, a Fallen Captain named Mithrax, The Forsaken.
Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait before we find out more about Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion as the year two reveal livestream is set to begin later today at 9 a.m. PST (12 p.m. EST). Today also marks the beginning of the first newly revamped Faction Rally PvE event, which is good because players will likely be eager to hop back in once they’re riding high off of all the new announcement Bungie will be making.
