One of the standout features of Destiny 2’s upcoming Forsaken expansion will be a new PvE/PvP hybrid mode called Gambit in which two teams will race to see who can eliminate a series of tough AI foes more quickly. Bungie previously confirmed that Gambit will be highly replayable thanks to its selection of four different maps and large number of different enemy configurations, and in the latest This Week at Bungie blog post the studio also revealed that Gambit will have its own dedicated progression system called Infamy.
In the above post, Bungie outlined its major goals for Gambit, saying that it wants the mode to be accessible to players of all skill levels but also deep enough that dedicated players will want to keep revisiting it over the long term. A big part of this long-term appeal will lie in the mode’s Infamy progression system which will function in a similar manner to the Valor system found in Destiny 2’s Crucible PvP component. However, Infamy ranks will be more granular than Valor ranks, with a large number of sub-ranks ensuring that players have smaller, more easily-achievable micro-goals to work towards rather than longer, more drawn out rank-ups. Every major Infamy rank will have three sub-ranks to work through, both other than that Infamy will function in a near-identical manner as Valor, as Bungie explains:
- Every completed Gambit match awards Infamy points, with more points granted for a win
- Each rank will require more Infamy points to complete than the last
- Win streaks award bonus points
- Your win streak caps at 5 and doesn’t get reset until you lose a match
- Your win streak won’t be reset if you join a match in progress
Along with completing matches, players will also be able to earn Infamy points by completing a new series of daily Gambit bounties. Once a player reaches the new level cap of 50, they’ll also be able to acquire a weekly Gambit bounty which, when completed, awards a large number of Infamy points and a piece of powerful gear. Naturally there will also be unique rewards such as weapons and armor available to those who climb the Infamy ranks.
Gambit will be just one of several new features coming to Destiny 2 when the Forsaken expansion launches on September 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
