Detroit: Become Human Has Already Surpassed One Million Units Sold
Detroit: Become Human was released just a few weeks ago by Quantic Dream, and the game is selling incredibly well. In fact, it has now been revealed that the game has already surpassed one million units sold. That achievement cements Detroit: Become Human’s performance as Quantic Dream’s most successful launch.
Detroit: Become Human has passed one million units sold around two weeks since its launched. Guillaume de Fondaumiere, the studio’s deputy CEO recently spoke to French magazine Les Echos about the game’s success. During the interview, he stated that Detroit: Become Human had the best launch of any game released by Quantic Dream; echoing comments he made closer to the game’s launch.
Quantic Dream’s Previous Records
For reference, Fondaumiere compared Detroit’s launch to those of previous Quantic Dream games. Heavy Rain, the studio’s best known and most successful title, took five weeks to reach the “one million units sold” threshold; more than twice as long as Detroit. It’s worth noting that Heavy Rain’s success was more dependent on endurance rather than strong initial sales. Heavy Rain developed a very positive reputation among gamers and reviewers, and as such, endured for many years after its initial release. The game passed five million sales by 2016.
Thus far, Detroit: Become Human’s review scores have been positive, but not quite as stellar as those of Heavy Rain. As such, it remains to be seen whether the game will develop the same endurance which was so integral to the success of Heavy Rain. It is certainly possible, if it continues to perform as it has done in recent weeks.
During the interview with Les Echos, Fondaumiere stated that Quantic Dream was currently in talks with Sony to refresh their exclusivity agreement with the console maker. Detroit: Become Human is Quantic Dream’s third PlayStation exclusive title. However, he clarified that the studio’s next game would still be several years away from release.
