Over the past few days, there has been a good deal of chatter around a leaked Sony patent. The patent provided next to no information, but contained an image that could have been anything from an elaborate cooling device for the PlayStation 5 to an actual PS5 dev kit design. And now we have some significant evidence which seems to confirm that what we are looking at is indeed a leaked PS5 dev kit design.
We Now Have a Confirmation from a Developer on the PS5 Dev Kit Design
First things first. If you haven’t seen the patent, check it out here. Yusuhiro Ootori is the stated designer, with the product described merely as “CONFIGURAÇÃO APLICADA A/EM DISPOSITIVO ELETRÔNICO,” which translates to “configuration applied to/in electronic device.” You can view the image from the patent below:
Now we have a confirmation from veteran developer Matthew Stott, employed at Codemasters in the role of Senior Artist. This is a reputable person with decades of experience in the video game industry.
On August 21st, 2019, Matthew.Stott (@matt_stott_72) posted on Twitter, “its a dev kit we have some in the office
Sony patent shows PlayStation 5 devkit – or maybe even the console itself https://t.co/0cYk6CkJ36 via @MetroUK.”
If you attempt to navigate to the tweet, you’ll find it has been removed. In fact, if you try to visit his user page under the @matt_stott_72 name, you’ll also find that page no longer exists. It seems that he deleted his entire account since making that post. Does this mean he got into trouble for his leak? We wouldn’t be surprised.
This seems like a pretty solid leak given its source, but remember that it is not yet official news. As we wait to find out more, catch up on everything we know so far about the PS5, and swing by our PlayStation news section to catch up on the latest updates.
