For some time now, Battlefield 5 players have had concerns about the issue of cheating. Unfortunately, cheating goes on in most online games to some capacity, and Battlefield 5 is no exception. As such, DICE have now decided to publish a detailed breakdown of their current Battlefield 5 cheating countermeasures so that players know what the state of things is.
How DICE is Going After Battlefield 5 Cheating
“We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to cheating,” explains DICE; “and the anti-cheat team here at DICE is constantly working towards identifying and banning players who use hacks to ruin the experience for honest players. We’d like to answer some of the most asked questions on this topic and detail how we’re working tirelessly to create a safe, secure environment for the community.”
According to DICE, the studio has five key areas to focus on to prevent cheating; Investigating methods to make reporting easier and how to use deterrence options along with account bans, improving their efforts at detecting cheating, improving cheat prevention, and staying up-to-date with the newest cheats. Apparently, the studio uses various in-game and server-based methods along with player reporting, etc. to identify cheaters. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to keep cheaters down; “Finding the cheaters’ unique identifiers and issuing bans on them is not a silver bullet,” explains DICE; “Cheat developers work tirelessly to get around these methods, which creates a cat-and-mouse game in which we constantly need to be vigilant.”
One change which DICE has put in place since launch is to make all bans permanent. As soon as DICE detects a player using cheats, they will be permanently banned. They might even get kicked from an active game. Of course, the studio needs to be careful not to ban players unfairly. However, it sounds as though they’re very careful about this; “In 2018,” they explain; “the number of false positive bans in all DICE titles could be counted on one hand. (Compromised accounts would not be classed as false positives as they were banned correctly in the first place.)”
