Tomorrow, on the 21st of February, DICE will be launching a brand-new Battlefield 5 Grand Operation. The new Grand Operation will feature the game’s newest map, Panzerstorm, and is based on the historical Battle of Hannut; at its time, the largest tank battle in history. Interestingly, the Grand Operation will also feature a 64-player version of the Rush game mode; a mode which will only be available for a limited time as a standalone, 32-player experience.
The New Battlefield 5 Grand Operation: The Battle of Hannut
Like the other Grand Operations which already feature in Battlefield 5, the new one will take place over the course of 3-4 in-game days. Day 1 will be an Airborne match on the newly-reworked Panzerstorm map. Day 2 will also be on Panzerstorm, but will be a Breakthrough match. Then, Day 3 will switch to the Arras map for a 64-player Rush match. If the two sides are tied on Day 3, Day 4 will resolve the operation in a Final Stand match on Arras.
Rush is the second of two game modes which were announced to become temporarily available during the Lightning Strikes chapter of Tides of War. The first of these, Squad Conquest, proved so popular that it remained available longer than originally planned. Indeed, DICE has said that their appearance now is intended to gauge public opinion before the studio considers making them permanent additions. Rush will become available on the 7th of March. It will be a 32-player mode available on the Twisted Steel, Narvik, and Devastation maps.
However, irrespective of Rush’s featuring as a limited-time mode; a special version of Rush will take place on Day 3 of the Battle of Hannut Grand Operation. This version of Rush features double the usual number of players; 64. Moreover, it takes place on the Arras map, which is not one of the maps which the standard Rush will be available on.
