Squad Conquest is an upcoming game mode for Battlefield 5, set to feature as part of the Lightning Strikes update. The mode pits two teams of 8 players against one another in a miniature version of Conquest. Due to the reduced size, DICE has reworked three maps into more condensed variants, including the Battlefield 5 Rotterdam map, along with Arras and Hamada. However, Squad Conquest will only be available for two weeks, from the 17th of January to the 30th.
The Battlefield 5 Rotterdam Squad Conquest Map Variant
While the Arras map variant is the largest of the three new map variants, Rotterdam is the smallest. It also features a different objective layout to Arras and Hamada, with the three objectives arranged in a straight line rather than a triangle. As DICE describes, this should make the fighting more intense than on any other map variant; “Linear battle routes are mapped from two key locations from the regular Rotterdam map,” says DICE; “ditching the triangle layout in the other two Squad Conquest maps. Each flag just about lines up next to each other, with the Axis HQ located away from but between Flags A and B.”
In another deviation from Arras and Hamada, Rotterdam is also the only urban Squad Conquest map. According to DICE, the map was designed to have three primary paths to channel the fighting. Like the other Squad Conquest maps, it features just one vehicle per side. However, it’s an armoured transport in this case, rather than a tank. Players will need to manoeuvre quickly and warily through the streets as they clash over the objective sites.
“A spacious park on the west side is home to Flag A, Plaza,” continues DICE; “and is surrounded by multiple-storey buildings. It faces Flag B, Train Station, head on. It’s a slightly modified version of Train Station Beurs found on the larger Rotterdam map and the point sure to collect the heaviest number of casualties. Flag C is nestled outside the large White House, where Allied forces will start their advance and clash with enemies at the Train Station.”
