Today marks the launch of the latest Battlefield 5 update, following on from the one which launched two weeks ago. This new update is launching alongside Combined Arms, Battlefield 5’s brand-new PvE game mode. While the last update included a rework for the Panzerstorm map and a host of new content for Practice Range, as well as a new tank, this update focuses mainly on bug-fixes and general improvements. Of course, Combined Arms contains plenty of new content on its own.
The Latest Battlefield 5 Update: Netcode Fixes and Quality of Life Improvements
The February 13th Battlefield 5 update doesn’t add much new content due to the simultaneous launch of Combined Arms. However, it does technically include the new Rush game mode, which will be available for two weeks. Rush isn’t available just yet; it will launch in-game for a limited time on the 7th of March. According to DICE; “We’re also focusing on improving the existing Battlefield 5 gameplay experience with this update. Netcode issues are being targeted, as well as general quality of life improvements on maps and ground vehicles.”
The full patch notes for the new update are available to read here. When it comes to Netcode, a new system will; “ensure consistency between TTK and TTD regardless of the network performance issues encountered by players”. This should eliminate the issue of ‘damage bundling’. A variety of netcode issues have also been fixed, while the HUD health updates when players take damage have been improved.
As far as vehicles are concerned, DICE has made a large number of tweaks, as well as fixing an exploit where players could get points by destroying their own vehicles. All tank shells will now have increased velocity and drag, making mid-range tank battles more ‘powerful and immediate’. Heavy tanks have also gained +25% armour against tank cannons. All armour-piercing shells have gained +30% damage, while tank shells now do +12% damage against infantry.
