Two new Battlefield 5 maps are scheduled to come to the game in its next update, according to DICE; Lofoten Islands and Provence. These will be the third and fourth maps, respectively, to be added during Tides of War Chapter 4, following the release of the Al Sundan and Marita maps earlier in the chapter. Both of the upcoming maps are very small, designed for fast-paced, infantry-only combat.
Lofoten Islands: One of Two Upcoming Battlefield 5 Maps
In a recent breakdown, DICE describes the Lofoten Islands Battlefield 5 map as a “Small,” “Infantry Only,” “Fast-Paced,” map. However, while it is relatively small, the map does allow for longer-range engagements due to the varied heights of the islands and buildings. “There are long sightlines for snipers,” explains DICE; “but not many places for concealment. Firing and relocating quickly will be the best strategy. What little cover enemies can find in open buildings can be efficiently eliminated with the strategic application of explosives.”
When the map launches, it will feature several game modes, including Squad Combat and Team Deathmatch. Interestingly, the two modes take place on separate islands; Team Deathmatch takes place on a larger village island, while Squad Combat takes place on the smaller fish oil factory island. As a result, capture points only appear on the factory island. These are Communications (A), the Fish Barn (B), and the Upper Vats (C). “This more industrialised location was once a hub for both local commercial fishing and shipping,” explains DICE; “Giant vats filled with fish oil dominate the central area of the map, while the once-bustling dock and fish barn stand all but abandoned to the south.”
Like the village island, cover is hard to come by on the factory island. Even where cover exists, such as the wooden fences around the factory itself, it can be shot through or blown apart. As a result, players should try to stay on the move rather than relying on cover. Furthermore, the close-quarters map will generally favour shorter-range weapons; more so than the village island, which offers opportunities for short-, mid-, and long-range firearms.
