Following the recent launch of Battlefield 5, after two weeks of staggered early-access opportunities, DICE has announced the release of a new hardcover volume. The book, entitled; “The Art of Battlefield 5,” is a collection of the concept and digital Battlefield 5 art. This includes everything from the earliest of rough sketches to the final digital renders and models of in-game assets.
DICE Has Released a New Official Battlefield 5 Art Book
The Art of Battlefield 5 was created by DICE during the development of their latest game, and is now available through Dark Horse Comics and other retailers; “Discover the art behind the action of DICE’s iconic first-person shooter, collected in a beautiful hardcover volume. […] Chronicling the development of EA DICE’s latest installment in the Battlefield epic, The Art of Battlefield 5 is filled with hundreds of pieces of concept art showcasing the creative process from rough sketches to final on-screen imagery, paired with exclusive commentary from the talented team who put it all together.”
The book features cover art by DICE’s Studio Presentation Director, Robert Sammelin. The hardcover volume is available for $39.99 and boasts 200 pages in A4 size. Like Battlefield 1 before it; Battlefield 5 has a wealth of lavish concept art detailing its landscapes, characters, and machinery of war. Of particular note are the landscape paintings; both those painted in traditional styles and those modelled on a computer.
Scale plays a key part in the aesthetic of Battlefield 5, as can be seen in maps like Hamada and Twisted Steel, or the War Stories set in Norway and North Africa. These spaces are vast and dominated by mountain ranges, frozen fjords, snowfields, and desert dunes. Even travelling in vehicles (or on skis!), these areas are reflective of the high-quality artwork which inspire their designs. Of course, there’s just as much detail in the game’s weapons and outfits. This is especially apparent in the small details; especially when the game’s ray tracing effects are enabled.
