One of the most important factors in any online multiplayer shooter are the TTK and TTD rates; the Time-to-Kill and Time-to-Death. If these two factors aren’t carefully balanced, the gameplay can suffer significantly. The Battlefield 5 Time-to-Kill and Time-to-Death rates have already been tweaked a few times by DICE, but the studio apparently plans further changes to come soon.
DICE Has Changes Planned for the Battlefield 5 Time-to-Kill Rate
According to DICE, the studio feels that the Battlefield 5 Time-to-Kill rate, and to a lesser extent the Time-to-Death, is too low. As a result, the combat is perhaps a bit too quick. Core Gameplay Designer Florian Le Bihan recently said that this area is “one of our high priorities right now”; but changes won’t be coming straight away. According to Le Bihan, DICE will be carrying our an experiment in the near future to increase the TTK in Battlefield 5. This experiment will involve creating two playlists in the game; one using the old TTK, and another using the new. Hopefully, this will allow players to compare the two and give feedback to the developers.
“The TTD experience is one of our high priorities right now and there are a lot of important and complex pieces that are being investigated to identify any issues in that area,” says Le Bihan; “including netcode. We are also expanding the scope of our investigation and improvements to other components that are directly related to the player experience when it comes to getting shot, receiving damage, etc.”
These changes won’t be coming in tomorrow’s update, however, which launches alongside the first Tides of War chapter. Rather, they will be coming in a separate update. The studio doesn’t give an exact date, but it sounds like fans can expect it relatively soon. After all, TTK and TTD have been some of DICE’s core priorities since the game’s Open Beta.
