Tides of War is the post-launch content release schedule for Battlefield 5, spanning the time from the game’s release to the present. With the launch today of Trial by Fire, all three of the originally announced chapters have now been released. Until now, players have been wondering whether DICE had any more post-launch content in the works. As it turns out, they certainly do. The studio has released an updated roadmap and announced two more chapters coming later this year.
New Battlefield 5 Tides of War Chapters 4 and 5
Trial by Fire, which brings with it the much-anticipated Firestorm battle royale mode, is the third chapter of Tides of War. The first, Overture, brought The Last Tiger War Story, Practice Range, vehicle cosmetic customisation options, and the Panzerstorm map. The second chapter, Lightning Strikes, brought the Combined Arms PvE mode, a Battle of Hannut Grand Operation, and temporarily made both the Rush and Squad Conquest modes available. Both chapters also featured new weekly challenges, objectives, and rewards. Trial by Fire adds Firestorm, and has more content coming throughout April.
Now, DICE has announced chapters 4 and 5. The first of these, Defying the Odds, will launch in June, later this year. The focus of this chapter will be on close quarters fighting, according to DICE; it features a new map and a new mode (with a second new map of its own designed specifically for it). This new mode will bring tight-quarters 5v5 matches to Battlefield 5. “More details, such as the mode’s name,” explain DICE; “will be revealed further down the road. As for the close-quarter map, its urban design has been sought after by the community and should feel both familiar and fresh at the same time.”
The other new map is ‘Marita,’ and will take place in Greece during late 1940. It sounds as though both of these new maps will eventually form part of a ‘Battle of Greece’ Grand Operation; “This second Battle of Greece map,” says DICE; “takes place along the mountain side overlooking a river, with ambient war from the ongoing conflict in the valley below echoing alongside you.”
The fifth chapter is currently shrouded in mystery, and is simply referred to as ‘Awakening the Giant’. It will come at some point in fall of 2019, but has no firm release date. According to DICE, it will open up an entirely new theatre of the war, featuring a; “land, air, and sea invasion”. The studio isn’t giving anything else away, but it certainly sounds as though there’s something big on the horizon for Battlefield 5 post-Firestorm.
