DICE Details Second of Two Upcoming Battlefield 5 Maps: Provence

DICE has now confirmed that the next Battlefield 5 update will be bringing two new maps to the game; the Lofoten Islands and Provence maps teased with the announcement of Chapter 4 some months ago. The two maps follow Al Sundan and Marita as the third and fourth maps released as part of this latest Tides of War Chapter. While Lofoten Islands is set in Scandinavia, Provence takes place in rural France.

The Second of the Upcoming Battlefield 5 Maps: Provence

“This map is based in occupied France and takes place in 1943,” explains DICE, in a recent map breakdown; “Despite the Axis stranglehold on the area, resistance is steadily growing stronger with the help of Allied RAF commando operations deep behind enemy lines. The narrow, cobblestoned streets once filled with life and laughter and now a charnel house echoing with gunfire, shouted orders, and the cries of wounded and dying.”

Just like Lofoten Islands, the second of the two new Battlefield 5 maps is also a small, infantry-centric map. In fact, while Lofoten is described by DICE as fast-paced, the studio describes Provence as both “Fast and Chaotic”. Due to the narrow streets and alleyways, gameplay will be full of non-stop engagements, heavily favouring short-range weapons. However, just like Lofoten, there are some longer sightlines to support longer-range play-styles. Both the Squad Combat and Team Deathmatch game modes will be available to play here when the map arrives in-game.

The map features three Capture Points; the Church Courtyard (A), Riverside Manor (B), and the Anti-Air Plaza (C). The nature of this map means that players will need to be wary for attacks coming from unexpected directions; “While there’s no shortage of flanking opportunities, be aware that ambushes and chokepoints are a very real hazard, so keep your eyes and ears open for unexpected attacks and literal dead ends”. Players should note that only some of the buildings are accessible while others aren’t. As such, if you can learn which ones you can enter, you’ll know which ones to watch for signs of enemy movement while playing.
