Digimon Survive Is a Survival Strategy RPG Coming to PS4 and Switch

Digimon Survive has been officially announced by Bandai Namco. Survive is the next in the line of Digimon games that have been cropping up more and more these last couple of years. Unlike the most recent games from the Cyber Sleuth series, Survive is touted as a “survival strategy RPG” in the Digimon franchise. Its art will blend together 2D and 3D visuals.

During conversations, Digimon Survive will look like 2D scenes from one of the Digimon anime seasons. Your conversations will actually be key to the gameplay, as choices you make will affect the narrative in some way and even the Digimon evolutions. Outside of speaking to someone, though, the graphics seem to be in 3D. Official images of the game are coming in a few days so we’ll have clarification then.

Digimon Survive Adventure Tri

The Digimon Survive announcement comes from Siliconera, just like today’s other survival RPG, Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist. While we don’t know too much about the main story just yet, players will take on the role of a middle school student on a camping trip. The trip turns for the worst when he and the other main characters are sent to another world, much like the first season of the Digimon anime.

The protagonist’s partner Digimon is the beloved Agumon, just like Tai in the original show. Players will be able to explore the harsh world in Digimon Survive in order to survive. Combat will be much different than recent games like the Cyber Sleuth series in that it is a strategy RPG. This means that battles will feature a grid-based map that you will have to maneuver around to fight enemies.

There is an Energy that you have to strategically use in order to complete actions during combat. Digimon Survive will release in Japan sometime next year for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. An official Western announcement has yet to be made for the game. While we wait, check out another Switch RPG coming soon called Yokai Watch 4.
