The creative director of The Elder Scrolls Online, Rich Lambert, recently gave an interview discussing the two big new content updates coming to the game; Update 20, and the Murkmire DLC. The two features, which will release together, are set to bring some major changes to Bethesda’s MMORPG. Indeed, both were recently previewed by Bethesda, suggesting that their launch is imminent.
Biomes and Other Elements in The Elder Scrolls Online Murkmire DLC
Rich Lambert recently spoke with ShackNews about Murkmire and Update 20, and explained how the studio went about designing the new DLC; “In Murkmire, one of the things that we focused on was navigating the zone,” he says; “It’s a swamp, and it’s hard to make a swamp and fun, but we did learn a lot. […] Things like most of the water is knee-deep or lower, so you can mount, you can run through, and you’re not stuck swimming all the time. We’ve broken the zone up into three distinct biomes, so it’s a little bit easier to tell where you are in your progression through the zone. And we’ve just opened it up more, and there’s more landmarks, so it doesn’t feel like you’re trapped in these big tubes of content. It’s more fun to explore the zone.”
Murkmire will be the first major DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online to feature a new region. Although Murkmire isn’t as large as Summerset, the more recent Wolfhunter DLC was much smaller. Wolfhunter includes two group dungeons and plenty of content, but no new regions. Murkmire is on a much larger scale. The DLC should provide a challenge to veteran players too; Lambert went on to state that it is; “essentially all max-level, and the player gets a buff on them that approximaes the relative skills and stats”; As a result, all players should have balanced progression and loot drops, regardless of level. That should make Murkmire accessible to all.
