A lot of people are excited about the recent announcement of Dissidia NT. In fact, the game has recently come out on PC. However, the Arcade version of this game has been out in Japan for quite a long time. Furthermore, this game is also available for PlayStation 4. Since then, users from the United States and Japan have been dedicated to keeping every player in the community in the loop about the game.
Inevitably, a lot of users have been confused about the newest mechanics of Dissida NT. For example, the game uses a 3V3 battle system, a more elaborate HUD and many other new features. What are the new things that are being brought to the table and what are the elements from the PSP release that got scrapped?
3 Vs 3, Fight as the World Collapses
Let’s start with the fact that the game is now a 3 Vs 3 Arena Fighter. The battles in Dissidia NT will continue to incorporate the BRV and HP fighting mechanics from Dissidia 012. However, the rules have changed. Both teams share an individual HP bar (indicated on the top left of the HUD).
Every battle generally has 3 stocks; one stock is removed by KO’ing a character with an HP attack. When a character is KO’d, they will respawn after 10 seconds. However, players can go back into the fray by pressing the BRV attack button at any point. The new objective is to take out the opponent’s “Stocks” before the time runs out.
The game sports a new map system that will show the position of every character. This map is displayed on the right side of the screen and will show the position of every fighter. Players can also see who is targeting them by watching a white arching line that goes toward the player character. Alternatively, the player can look at the bottom left side of the HUD for the same results.
EX skills are introduced for the characters to give them an edge in battle. Two of them are unlocked as you play the game. Characters are also divided by types and classes. Of course, this also means you’ll see a lot of variations on character types, each with their own specialty.
Dissidia NT out with the old in with the new.
The Chase, Assist and EX Mode/Burst mechanics from Dissidia 012 have been removed. Instead, the game uses new mechanics such as as EX Skills and Summons. There are two types of EX moves available for your characters: 2 Customizable EX Skills and a character unique EX Skill. The Customizable EX Skills can be used to apply buffs or debuffs during battle. Meanwhile, the Character Unique EX Skill is a unique skill for that character.
Unique EX Skills also vary from simple speed/charging buffs to entirely new forms with their own gimmick. For example, Cloud Strife has an EX skill called “LIMIT BREAK” which reduces the charging time of his moves and also increases the power to some of his attacks. Terra Branford has access to her Esper form with “Trance!” where she will receive a buff to her Attack, Defense and Speed. All of these have to be taken into consideration for team synergy and management.
Summons return from the PSP version but at the same time they bring what could be game changing differences. Teammates have to use a dedicated command to make a summoning stance and fill up a gauge which will eventually call the summon forth. Once called, the summons will deal massive damage to the opposing team with massive attacks that are nearly impossible to avoid. The summoning team will also get a passive buff.
As some might have noticed, the team mechanic is a very important factor in Dissidia NT. Learning to work as a team is essential to be effective in that team. In fact, some characters act as a supporting role more than anything. For example, Kuja has an EX skill that focuses on giving buffs to his teammates and to himself before accessing his Trance form.
Dissidia NT PC Guide: Should I buy the Game?
Dissidia NT is distributing on PC thanks to Steam. However, there are multiple versions of the “Full Game” which players can purchase. The Standard Edition of the game will let players experience Dissidia NT’s story mode and have 28 characters. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition of the game will give players access to the game’s Season Pass.
The best deal for players is likely the Deluxe Edition of the game. For only $40 USD, players will get access to all the features in the game as well as all the DLC characters. However, it’s also possible to purchase characters individually. However, each character costs around $8 USD a piece. As such, it’s recommended to tread carefully.
