Fans have been busy speculating at the potential setting for the next Assassin’s Creed title. The series is taking a hiatus this year to presumably focus on releasing a polished, well put together entry to follow up the incredible Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. A new clue may have just been discovered within The Division 2, as one eagle eyed fan spotted a poster which appeared to offer a glimpse at what Ubisoft has in store for the franchise.
I Spy With My Little Eye
A YouTuber by the name of JorRaptor spied a number of posters scattered about the Potomac Event Center in The Division 2 which seem to be strongly referencing a piece of Assassin’s Creed lore. The poster features a warrior of some sort clutching the infamous Apple of Eden underneath the word “Valhalla.” This reference to the Norse afterlife in addition to the apparent Nordic appearance of the warrior, and presence of the series’ most legendary artifact, all lend to the notion that the next Assassin’s Creed will be set in the age of Vikings.
This comes as a surprise to many fans who had predicted the series would make a return to Rome following a leak some time ago. Although the Viking era would certainly be a departure from the series’ more familiar territories, it’s a time which fans have long considered to be a riveting potential avenue for Assassin’s Creed. Not only would a mainline title set in the age of Vikings be able to capitalize on the brutally fun action-oriented combat perfected in Odyssey, but it would also be poised to utilize naval combat and travel assets as well.
Overall, this seems like the perfect next step for the series. This story is bolstered by a recent report from Kotaku which claims this little easter egg is indeed more than a mere rumor. While Ubisoft has not yet confirmed anything regarding the next Assassin’s Creed, fans are certainly eager to learn more as time goes on.
