Does Battlefield 2042 Feature Crossplay?

Excited to play Battlefield 2042? As you may know, this newest addition to the Battlefield series is 100% multiplayer. So, one of your pressing questions about the game is probably, “Does Battlefield 2042 feature crossplay?” In this post, we answer your crossplay questions in detail.

Does Battlefield 2042 Feature Crossplay? Yes

The short answer to the question is yes, Battlefield 2042 does feature crossplay. But the more complicated answer is that gamers can crossplay between some platforms and not others, depending on what platform they are on.

Group 1: Players on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC may all crossplay together.

Group 2: Players on PS4, Xbox One X, and Xbox One S may all crossplay together.

But what you cannot do is play between groups. That means that if you are on PS5, for example, you cannot crossplay with someone on Xbox One X.

The reason that this is the case has to do with differences in what the hardware between the two groups can handle. Those who are on newer platforms can play in matches with up to 128 players. But older platforms can only support up to 64 players at a time. So, naturally it makes sense that these two groups cannot play together. If a system that can only support 64 players tried to enter a match with 128 players, we would expect it to crash.

So, now you know that Battlefield 2042 does support crossplay, but hardware imposes limitations on which systems can play together.
