Doom Eternal: Release Date and Expectations

Since the announcement of Doom Eternal at E3 2018, more and more fans of the Doom franchise are popping up on YouTube posting their video reactions to show their excitement for this “Hell on Earth” video game. However, when is Doom Eternal going to be released and what are our thoughts and expectations for it?

We all thought that we would have to wait until this year’s QuakeCon in August to find out Doom Eternal’s release day. Let’s thank Amazon, as it provided us with the release date through its listing before QuakeCon. It set the date for December 28, 2018, which means that not only will it be released earlier than 2016’s Doom did, but also that we will only have to wait for six more months to play it. Let’s hope that this is not merely a placeholder release date.

Having watched the trailer and seen that all of Doom’s creatures have moved to Earth, we have major expectations for this video game. The fact that all the action will take place on our planet instead of Mars, where the previous ones were based, gives us hopes for a different experience than we had with the other games of the franchise. First of all, could this setting change mean that we will get a more open map and not the claustrophobic kind we are used to from the previous Doom games? Moreover, the location change could also explain the promises for an even tougher Doom Slayer than the previous ones considering that an expanded map can allow him a bigger size.

In addition, while Bethesda is already expanding its other games through online modes, can we make the same assumption for Doom Eternal, too? Imagine an online Doom Eternal mode with the luxury of receiving regular updates, making the whole new Earth landscape even more hellish than it will already be.

Although Bethesda did not announce on which platforms Doom Eternal will be available, we are expecting it to be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Considering the fact that the last Doom came to Playstation VR last year, we can hope for another VR experience, this time on Doom Eternal.

For anyone interested in pre-purchasing Doom Eternal, it is currently available for pre-order for PC, Xbox One and PS4 on Amazon.
