Dragon Quest and building fans can look forward to the Dragon Quest Builders 2 release date very soon. Square Enix has announced that the release date for the highly anticipated follow-up to the Minecraft-inspired spin-off Dragon Quest title will be officially revealed during a livestream next week on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at around 8:00 pm JST, which is 4:00 am PDT here.
We have known about this sequel for quite a while now but a Dragon Quest Builders 2 release date has eluded us for just as long. That should finally come to an end next Wednesday as we will know when it will be releasing then. Unfortunately, that release date will most likely only be for the Japanese version of the game. However, the Western release date is sure to follow soon enough.
For reference, the original game released in Japan in January 2016 before making its way to North America and Europe in October of the same year. That is a decent wait but Square Enix has gotten even better at releasing games here closer to the original Japanese release in the last couple of years. For instance, Octopath Traveler came out at the same time worldwide.
We expect Square Enix to announce a formal Dragon Quest Builders 2 release date for the West soon after the Japanese announcement is made. The first game in the spin-off series also came to Nintendo Switch earlier this year so it is possible that this game could be day and date the same day as the PS4 and any other potential versions.
As such, we don’t believe that Square Enix would release both games in the same year so our prediction for a Western Dragon Quest Builders 2 release date would be Spring 2019, similar to the release date for the Switch version at the beginning of this year. Stay tuned for the formal announcement next week.
